Four trees, a fortress.

Eastern Sicily, August nineteen-eighty-three.

I was born in Sicily, between the Ionian Sea and Etna, between the salt air and the black earth that sometimes falls like rain, more often than the rain itself.

Trained as an architect, I have been a photographer practically my whole life, and I don’t consider myself strictly tied to any photographic genre, but rather as a photographer of cities. Usually, the human figure is not essential in my shots. I often wait to be alone, because what I seek is space: the shell that contains everything.

Since I work almost exclusively with architecture and urban spaces, quoting Protagoras and his idea that “man is the measure of all things,” the presence of man is always at least implied. After all, man can be considered the “modulor” of the city, the unit of measurement.

My photographic research aims to make everyday places appear solemn. I want to give dignity to the city, without artifice, in the most authentic way possible. This is why I linger on forms rather than trying to capture the decisive moment.

My goal, in these throwaway times, is for the viewer to linger in front of my photograph much longer even if it depicts places that might seem devoid of interest. I enjoy leading the observer to look closely, to seek out and notice every detail.

I use both digital and analog systems interchangeably, adapting myself to whatever tool I have in hand. I consider myself extremely curious, and I like to research a place thoroughly before photographing it, almost to the point of obsession.

Sono nato in Sicilia tra lo Ionio e l’Etna, tra la salsedine e la terra nera che a volte viene giù come fosse pioggia, più spesso della pioggia.

Architetto di formazione, fotografo praticamente da sempre e non mi considero strettamente legato ad un genere fotografico, ma piuttosto un fotografo di città. Solitamente, nei miei scatti, la figura umana non è fondamentale. Spesso aspetto di essere da solo, poiché quello che cerco è lo spazio: l’involucro che contiene tutto.

Occupandomi quasi prevalentemente di architetture e spazi urbani, citando Protagora e la sua “l’uomo è la misura di tutte le cose”, la presenza dell’uomo è sempre almeno sottintesa. Anche perché tendenzialmente l’uomo è da considerarsi il “modulor” della città, l’unità di misura.

La mia ricerca fotografica è volta a far percepire luoghi quotidiani come solenni. Dare dignità alla città, senza artefatti, nella maniera più autentica possibile. Questo è il motivo per cui mi fermo a fissare le forme piuttosto che a catturare l’istante decisivo.

Lo scopo che mi prefiggo, in questi tempi usa e getta, è che si possa rimanere davanti ad una mia una fotografia per molto più tempo, anche se questa raffigura luoghi apparentemente privi di interesse. Mi piace portare l’osservatore a curiosare, a voler cercare e notare tutti i dettagli.

Faccio uso, indifferentemente, di sistemi digitali e analogici, tendendo ad adattarmi al mezzo che ho in mano. Mi ritengo una persona estremamente curiosa e mi piace documentarmi prima di scattare in un determinato luogo, ai limiti dell’ossessione.

I am a photographer based in Lecce, Italy, but I shoot anywhere I find beauty.

My photography explores the relationship between architecture, landscape, and nature, blending artistic sensitivity with documentary precision. My images focus on capturing the beauty of places and human interaction within environments, highlighting Mediterranean atmospheres through evocative light and composition. My focus is recognized for its emotional force, minimalist aesthetic, and careful attention to details.

When not taking pictures I am usually listening to music or reading a book.
